Contestants pay a small fee to enter any of three separate categories at the World Championship Old-Time Piano Playing Contest. Junior Division contestants 17 and younger compete right along with Regular Division players all day Saturday and the Junior Champion is crowned late Saturday afternoon.
The judges select ten Regular Divisions players to advance to a Sunday afternoon session that narrows the field to five, who play again in the championship round where they all get cash prizes and medallions. The winner gets possession of the contest’s traveling trophy for a year and has their name inscribed on it.
The New Rag Contest takes place on Friday evening with the winner receiving a cash prize and a remarkably small trophy.
